IMPORTANT NOTES

  • The sensitivities are derived from actual measurements and apply to targets sufficiently faint that individual exposure times can be 900 seconds at J,H, and K, 120 seconds at L, and 30 seconds at M. They are for 70-percentile (IQ70, ~average) image quality at each wavelength, photometric conditions (CC50), and an airmass of less than 1.2. They apply to wavelengths of good atmospheric transmission. One can interpolate between the values in these tables to give approximate sensitivities at other wavelengths where the atmospheric transmission is high. Investigators should inform themselves of the atmospheric transmission at their key wavelengths and adjust integration times accordingly.

  • Brightnesses for continuum sources are given in broad band magnitudes. Fluxes for unresolved lines are given in W/m2.

  • For CC70 or conditions reduce the sensitivities by 0.3 mag (30 percent). For CC90 reduce sensitivities by 2 magnitudes. For IQ85 reduce the sensitivities by 0.3 mag.

  • For the 0.34" slit used in this table there are 4 spectral pixels per spectral resolution element.
