GMOS SV program 68

Status: in preparation
Data link: not yet available
Assessment: not yet available
Title: MOS observations of z>4 galaxy candidates in the field of PMN2314+0201
Modes: MOS
Additional instrument verification: Data reduction pipeline for MOS data; mask preparation software.
Telescope verification: Acquisition and guiding with GMOS for tested mode. Stability of guiding over long periods of time and large hour angles.
Proposed observing sequence: MOS: Multiple 30 min exposures
OT program file: Not yet available
Science background:

The aim is to obtain spectra of the z~4 galaxy candidates in the field of PMN2314+0201. The program is the start of the spectroscopic follow up for GMOS SV program 67. At first only a moderate exposure time would be necessary, to determine whether Ly-alpha emission is present in any of the candidate high-z objects.

Deeper MOS observations would be necessary in the future (not necessarily as part of SV) in order to obtain redshifts for the galaxies which do not show Ly-alpha emission.

Target(s):
Object RA (J2000) Dec (J2000) z
PMN2314+0201 23:14:48.7 02:01:51 4.109
Observing condition constraints: image quality: 50%-ile
sky transparency (clouds): 50%-ile, 70%-ile
sky transparency (water vapour): Any
sky background: 50%-ile
